Day 2: Markets and more Markets

Friday, April 12th we went to the market in Langon both the outdoor market and the super marche. The outdoor market was filled with produce, fish, cheeses, clothing, and other treasures. What an amazing display of hats! We loved looking at all of the wonderful fish and produce and I could not help myself from buying beautiful carrots, strawberries, lettuce, a red pepper, garlic and shallots. I’m not sure what I will do with them but they were too good to resist.

We visited the tourist office and the woman suggested a place for lunch. Oh my, I needed my best French and an understanding of what was being said. Both sorely lacking. The restaurant did not have any tables so we had to sit on stools near the window. We looked at the menu and then discovered they did not serve wine! So we left. We found a restaurant which had great atmosphere but the food was just so-so. I guess you can’t have everything!

Our next market stop was Leclerc the super marche in Langon. What a store. They sell everything: Food, clothing, household goods. I dragged Scott up and down every aisle. (He was not happy) We bought cream, lettuce, cereal, oil, vinegar, and lots of other things. And I found the same coffee we had in Normandy two years ago. It was so tasty. It is a fair trade coffee of pure arabica beans. I can’t wait to try it.

When we arrived back at Rouge Bordeaux I prepared a plate of cheese, bread and meat and we sat outside and enjoyed a nice bottle of wine. We met another man and his sons who were staying there. They were from Nantes. His English was pretty good and we had a very nice conversation. It is so much fun being here and experiencing France and its people. Megan and Julien could not be nicer. More about them later.

Scott really was enjoying himself despite the look on his face.
