On Saturday, April 13 we went to Bazas for the market (you can never go to too many markets!) and to have lunch. Bazas is a town about 20 minutes from Auros where we are staying. The map below shows Bazas and the surrounding area including Langon where we were yesterday. It is known for its famous beef and for the Cathedrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste. The cathedrale dates from the 13th to 14th centuries. It is one of the cathedrales on the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. This route has been followed by pilgrims since the middle ages. It was a route from France into Spain.

The market was very busy. All kinds of good things: cheese, vegetables, clothing, meats. I got some lettuce, tomato, cheeses and shrimp for dinner. It will be my first time cooking in the apartment.
Some vendors were enjoying the day having coffee and we even found a Murphy. In need of a haircut but still cute!
We visited the church. It is very beautiful inside and has some amazing stained glass windows.

After the market we drove back to put away our fish and cheese then came back to Bazas to walk around until lunch. We were eating at Le Boeuf Pop and thankfully Megan made a reservation for us because the place was packed. The owner is from the US but has been in Bazas for many years. He is originally from Georgia and no, he does not speak French with a southern accent! His daughter waited on us and was very happy to speak English. She only speaks French at home. They are noted for their beef so of course we had some. Scott had a cheese burger (he said it was great) and I had beef tartare. Our grandson Jacob would have been very happy to try some. Jacob, it was delicious. We sat there for 2 1/2 hours. Very enjoyable. Back to Auros to nap and then we enjoyed a drink by the pool.

Now for the two firsts.
We got a text from Megan saying a band was playing at the local bar, Le Coyote. We had walked by it several times on our way to the market and it looked a little rough. They were suppose to start at 8:30 so we wandered over about 9. Well, it was an interesting experience. It was a biker bar. Most all of the patrons were in their leathers and had a spider web on the back with the words “Les Frangins” (The Brothers). The band instruments were set up but no band in sight and there was no seating inside. We went out back after getting some beers. This was the smoking section and eating area. They were cooking up something and people were crowded around. I wanted to take pictures inside the bar but I didn’t think it was a good idea.
The First first: I ate a hot dog on a baguette!! Actually the hot dog wasn’t too bad and 2,5 euro beer wasn’t either. I really don’t look like I fit in (Ha)!

The second First: We listened to a rock band at a biker bar! The band was loud, played ZZ top and it was fun! They didn’t even start to play until 10 pm!

I would have loved that rough bar! Looks like fun, but not sure if I’d like the whole “he did nothing but scream” vocals.
